Invited sessions can cover subjects or cross-subjects belonging to the topics of interest, or novel topics related with the ones identified within the topics of interest.

The proposals for Invited Sessions should contain: the invited session title, a short presentation of the invited session and a list of at least five papers. The proposals for Invited Sessions should be sent at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by May 1st, 2012 May 25th, 2012.

Submission procedure and the review process for invited session papers will be as for regular papers.

List of proposed Invited Sessions

1. Bioprocess modelling, state estimation and control

Organizers:

Mariana TITICĂ – Nantes University, France

Sergiu CARAMAN – “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galaţi, România

Topics:
Bioprocesses play an important role in various industries as food processing, pharmaceutics, environmental management. Bioprocesses, however, are difficult to control and optimize due to the lack of appropriate mathematical models, the complex dynamic behavior of bioreactors, the uncertainties of the cells metabolic responses, and the difficulties to obtain reliable measurements of key variables characterizing their internal functioning. Even if theoretical tools based on an academic bioreactor model exist, their implementation on given application is still a challenge.
The aim of this special session is to bring together researchers, scientists and engineers from academia and from industry, so as to share knowledge, experience and ideas in the field of bioprocess control. This includes key results in various fields, including: modeling and identification, state estimation and methods of monitoring and control. Theoretical and practical studies are equally encouraged.

Those interested please send a title+short abstract before May 1st, 2012 May 25th, 2012 to one of the session organizer below.

2. Nonlinear, Fuzzy, Bio-Inspired, and Heuristic Methods in Modeling, Control and Classification

Organizers:

Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu - Senior Member IEEE

Abraham Kandel - Fellow IEEE (USA)

Prof. Kandel will make a brief review of the field at the beginning of the session.

Topics:

The session addresses current and new issues in modeling, control and classification, based on techniques that involve essentially nonlinear systems, heuristics, fuzzy logic, and uncertainty. While applications in several papers in the session relate to medicine, other fields of application are also addressed. The keywords of the session, as related to methods, are uncertainty, fuzzy logic, heuristics, neural networks, nonlinear dynamics, bio-mimetic; some of the targeted application domains are clustering, modeling, control, medicine, biology. The session aims to contribute to the hybridization of the above methods and to put forward new and innovative applications.

Those interested please send a title+short abstract before May 1st, 2012 May 25th, 2012 to one of the session organizer below.

3. Sustainable energy

Organizers:

Gelu GURGUIATU – “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galaţi, România

Ionel VECHIU – “ESTIA” the Institute of Advanced Industrial Technologies, Bidart, France

Topics:
The establishment of a sustainable energy future is one of the most pressing tasks of mankind. For a society to attain or try to attain sustainable development, much effort must be devoted not only to discovering sustainable energy resources, but also to increasing the efficiency of processes utilizing these resources.
The aim of this special session is to contribute to the advancement of the principles and applications in power quality improvement by implications of control techniques in power electronics. In particular, this session has a special interest in power quality improvement and renewable sources applications.
We welcome submissions that describe original research on advancement on power electronics, including, but not limiting to: Power electronics for renewable energy applications; AC/DC, DC/DC, Inverters and multilevel converters control; Power factor correction and harmonic mitigation. Passive and active power filters; Micro-grids and distributed generation control; Energy storage systems management.

Those interested please send a title+short abstract before May 1st, 2012 May 25th, 2012 to one of the session organizer below.

5. Modelling and Control of Factional-order Systems

Organizers:

Dr. ir. Clara M. IONESCU - Department of Electrical Energy, Systems and Automation, Ghent University, Belgium

Dr. ing. Cristina I. POP - Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Department of Automatic Control, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Topics:
Fractional order calculus has been used extensively during the past decade in the modelling and control of a wide range of processes, being considered to enhance the control system performance. In fact, research on fractional order controllers has demonstrated their superior performance over that of classical PID controllers. Also, fractional order models may contribute to a more exact modelling of certain types of systems.
The aim of this special session is to add to the development of fractional order calculus in the field of control engineering, in terms of identification methods, modelling and controller design. Authors of this special session are welcome to submit original research describing scientific and engineering aspects and techniques related to fractional order calculus (identification, modelling, simulation, control, etc.).
The topics of this special session on fractional order calculus include, but are not limited to: Electrical engineering (modelling of motors, transformers, skin effect, …), Electromagnetism (modelling of complex dielectric materials, …), Electrochemistry (modelling of batteries and ultracapacitors …), Thermal engineering (modelling and identification of thermal systems,…), Mechanics, mechatronics (viscoelasticity, vibration insulation, …), Automatic control (system identification, observation and control of fractional systems, …), Biology, biophysics (signal and models of biological systems, viscoelasticity in biology, ...), Physics (analysis and modelling of diffusion phenomenon, …).
